Jeff nodded. "It's wrong," he agreed. "I mean Jen is...a really odd girl. It could be that her family has money and so she doesn't care about spending it lavishly. Especially since she doesn't spend much in general but...I didn't get to be one of Gotham's prosecutors by ignoring troubling signs like this." He sighed. "It could be nothing but if it is something I won't protect her," he said fiercely. Gotham was the one that needed protection. There was corruption everywhere. You couldn't fight it if your ignored the crimes of those closest to you. He still wasn't convinced Jen was involved in anything but it was definitely worth checking out.

"I understand completely," he told him. "I had a problem like that earlier tonight..."

"A problem like that earlier?" he asked concerned. He leaned in closer and whispered. "What happened?" He didn't ask anymore questions. It would be best to let Bruce explain what he felt was relevant. As a prosecutor he needed to be aware of the goings of the city. Before people were arrested and a trial was brought you needed compelling evidence. He always wanted to get the jump on cases, have notes and notes of condemning testimony before a trial was even called to order.

"Just a matter that might have been nothing, but could have been something," he said, "Not worth getting into."

"Even if it seemed like nothing I'd like to know. Little bits of nothings added together can be the basis for trials," he pointed out. "I'll feel bad if something develops from this 'nothing'. I promise not to go berserk or jump on anything. I just want to know what was odd so I can be on the lookout." Bruce might become a valuable member of his intel. As a billionaire he had exposure to things many other people didn't. Who knew what he heard and saw.

"A guest accosted my date," he told Jeff, "He ended up striking another guest when he tried to step in, so I punched him. I don't actually know who he was, so I can't be of much more help."

Jeff whipped out a notebook and pen from his briefcase and went into attorney mode. "Alright. So this happened tonight. Now what did this person look like? Do you know their name? Have you seen them before? Do you have any idea why they accosted your date? Who was your date? And did they say or do anything strange?"

"Now's not the time for this," he told Jeff, "I'll contact you another time, and see what information I can dig up from my other guests and security about what exactly happened."

"The human memory is unreliable. The fresher the experience, the less people they talk to about it, the more reliable it is. If you're worried about it being overheard you can write it down. But I would like to know a little more before something happens. And if nothing happens the worst I've done is lose some time," he whispered.
He was very serious about any potential threat. And he head learned it was best to push and not be patient. He recalled several occasions where he waited to get information from other people. He waited for a better time or location or he was busy and as a result the people ended up dead or they clammed up and suddenly became very forgetful. Even without foul play it was best to ask sooner, just for the sake of memory reliability. Faces and dialogue were easy to forget. Bruce was counting on the fact that there would be a recording. But what if the videos were tampered with or the person in question was in a blind spot? It wasn't worth the risk.

"Trust me, I have a good memory. Let's not talk about this here, though. I still have to gather more information anyway."

Bruce was a billionaire. Of course he was being difficult. "It's not a matter of trust. Even if you have a good memory it will be best now. And even if you want to gather more information you can fill me in later. I'd like to help you look into the situation," he said sincerely.
"Bruce, Gotham needs help. I know it's a lot to ask you to trust me but I want to help protect this city. Gotham is my hometown. How corrupted it is...It's depressing. I want to do all I can to protect it. But to do my job I need every scrap of intel I can get no matter how seemingly insignificant or incomplete. Nothing is more important than saving this city."

Jeff sighed, relieved. "Thank you," he said gratefully. He really wanted to do everything he could for Gotham. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if an incident occurred because he was careless and didn't adequately gather information when he had a potential lead. He took out his cell and quickly texted Jen that he was discussing work with Bruce. She would know not to get involved. He didn't ask about her work and she didn't ask about his. That was their agreement. Somehow he thought that might get a little bit more complicated later on. Hopefully it wouldn't though. Hopefully she was just being odd about family money or something.

He brought Jeff with him into a side room, "Ok...trying to think of where to begin," he said. That was true; some things he'd want to leave out, for now.

Trying to think where to begin? That meant trying to determine what to filter out. As a prosecutor Jeff knew that song and dance well. It wasn't necessarily that people were trying to make themselves look better or wriggle their way out of trouble but best case scenario they would try to figure out what was relevant. Always a bad idea. They could leave out important info like that.
"Just tell me everything. I know I'm a lawyer but I won't try to get you on every little thing. I'm trying to protect the city not write everyone up for littering. Even if you don't think it's important give me everything undiluted," he instructed.
"I'm not trying to bring a case against you," he promised. "You won't get in trouble. Even if you broke a law and learned something and you needed to admit to breaking the law in court I'd make a deal so you wouldn't get in trouble."
