Overview:
Bruce is very dedicated and determined to what he perceives as his duty; fighting crime in Gotham and saving his precious city. He occasionally uses questionable tactics, and crosses lines in morality, but he always finds his way back before going too far. He holds great hate and anger towards criminals, but can put that aside and appear as a caring, selfless person, able to switch personas easily to avoid people learning of his other identity.
Even with a dark past and serious work, Bruce has a sense of humor and a sense of romance. He’s used women for sex, keeping up an appearance as a carefree playboy, but that’s not what he’s like. He regrets doing these things, and has some good relationships with women yet whom he’s been with.
He is of strong moral character; his greatest code is that he will never kill. He doesn’t want to cross a line and become someone he’s out to stop. He believes himself to be incorruptible, and can show compassion for his enemies when he sees fit, when they deserve it. He holds a good deal of faith in people, but it has been damaged over the years.
His persona as a carefree playboy consists of being fun-seeking, sleeping around, partying, but he doesn’t like that. He sees a great deal of work to be done, and would like to focus solely on that.
Bruce is a highly skilled martial artist, having been trained by various martial artists and soldiers within the League of Shadows, including Slade Wilson, Malcolm Merlyn, and even Ra’s al Ghul himself. He was trained in theatrics, ninjutsu, and carried with him skills such as boxing, grappling and muay thai. He was taught to be a skilled marksman and swordsman, but doesn’t rely on those skills often.
He’s highly intelligent, having a mind suited for detective work, and is an expert planner. He’s skilled in stealth, and has a powerful arsenal due to his immense wealth. His body is extremely adept, strong, fast, and intimidating.
Other Equipment:
- His initial suit as a vigilante, with a face covering. He also wields a few shuriken and kunai knives.
- His Batsuit, provides him armor, not perfect against any real weaponry, but can takes knife slashes and a glancing bullet or two. His belt is filled with tools, such as Batarangs, a grappling gun, smoke bombs, etc.
History
Bruce is the child of Thomas Wayne, a surgeon, and Martha Wayne, who organized charity functions. He was an only child.
When he was eight years old he fell into a well on the Wayne Manor property, finding himself in a bat-filled cave. He was traumatized, but his father rescued him. Soon after the family went to a play, where Bruce became frightened. On the way out his parents were killed by a man they presumed as a mugger, but who wasn’t demanding money or anything.
Bruce was spared. He was found by Sergeant James Gordon and comforted. Alfred Pennyworth took care of him for years. He was loved, looked after, but he was alone and afraid.
Bruce finished his schooling and went to Princeton University before returning to Gotham after completing his education. His parents’ murderer had never been found. Bruce saw the corruption in the city, and didn’t want to be afraid anymore. He didn’t want his city to suffer.
He hired people to train him in martial arts. He learned to box, he learned muay thai, he learned krav maga and pencak silat. He learned anything that could help him to become stronger. But after he learned what they had to teach, he realized he needed something more. He needed real life experience.
He set out into the world, not as Bruce Wayne, but as a nameless man. He fought in back alleys, was arrested multiple times, fought in prison, fought anywhere, become more aware of the world, of his surroundings. He was learning and growing through this exile.
Eventually he was found by an Australian man named Slade Wilson. Slade trained him and had him fight trained soldiers and killers. He fought well, but not well enough, refusing to kill an enemy. He was put into training with swords (Slade’s favorite) and guns, including being kept awake for three days straight and being forced to use a sniper rifle on targets large distances away.
Slade and the group of soldiers/mercenaries captured a series of bank robbers and took them prisoner. Two were tortured, and Bruce was forced to fight the other, to see what a man with nothing left to lose could do. Bruce wasn’t able to do much, already being tired and wounded, but the man wouldn’t stop coming at him, and managed to get a combat knife off of a soldier and nearly killed Bruce.
Bruce lost the fight, because the only way he could have won was to kill. Slade took the man back and he was imprisoned again.
Some time later Bruce met Ra’s al Ghul and received some more focused ninja training, since he’d be more suited towards that than being a soldier. Bruce excelled, but refused to become an assassin.
Ra’s decided to let Bruce go back to his precious Gotham and do what he wanted, and see how things worked out for him. He believed that Bruce would return to the League of Shadows before long, finding his city beyond saving.
As Bruce fought as a masked vigilante with his League gear, and later as a bat-themed vigilante, out of his childhood fears, he found that the city isn’t beyond saving, as long as he fought for it.
