He is a sarcastic and cynical yet very caring man. He lives for the sake of helping Bruce Wayne as a tireless valet, assistant, butler, confidant, and surrogate father figure. He worries that Bruce takes on too much by himself and works to keep him grounded and remind him of his limitations.

History
Alfred was born and raised in Bradford. He became an intelligence agent. During one of his excursions he went to France and had a brief relationship with Mademoiselle Marie. He returned to Britain not realizing that he had impregnated the woman. He admired and respected Mademoiselle but never kept in contact as they were both rather busy with dangerous work.
He eventually retired from the field and it was his father’s, Jarvis’, dying wish that Alfred carry on the tradition of serving the Wayne Family. Alfred then traveled to Gotham city and became Martha and Thomas Wayne’s butler. One year later Martha became pregnant and gave birth to Bruce.
Alfred loyally looked after the Wayne family for many years. He learned each member’s mannerisms. He took pains to keep everyone contented and healthy. He discussed medicine with Thomas Wayne and helped calm him down after unsuccessful surgeries. He helped Martha organize charity functions. He helped Bruce with his schoolwork when he was troubled by a subject. There was also an instance where Bruce got into a fight with a school bully. Alfred taught Bruce to handle the bully strategically, rather than using brute force. Following Alfred's advice, Bruce managed to take care of his bully problem.
When Bruce was eight his parents were murdered and Alfred became his legal guardian as dictated by the will left by Thomas and Martha. He raised Bruce like he was his own son. He took care of him until Bruce went off to college. He remained at the manner, making sure it remained in pristine condition and ensuring that the Wayne corporation was under control. He continued to stay there when Bruce traveled around the world to train.
Several years ago Bruce returned to the Wayne manor. The manor looked as nice as when Bruce had left it. All of his affairs were in order. He then helped Bruce set up his identity as Batman and the Bat Cave. He is there to advice Bruce, serve as his butler, and ensure that criminals are arrested. He also looks after Wayne’s injuries as it would typically be unwise to send him to a doctor when he is injured in the field.
