He had. It occurred to him that they were alike, except he had chosen a path that didn't involve murder. He had chosen a path of justice, as his parents would have wanted. He helped people without having to cross a line. He feared that if that line was crossed, there was no way back over. He saw her as beyond redemption, with these as her motives.
If this is what she believed was right, he doubted he'd be able to bring her back.
He took a few steps towards her, not saying a word.

Alice continued to hold her blade steady, simply watching him approach. She would not be the first to strike. She wouldn't. She'd defend herself if necessary and that was it. She took deep cleansing breaths, trying to steady her nerves. She always got a bit too worked up and angry when she recalled her parents' murders . She needed to be calm not emotionally unbalanced to do well in this fight. If the man had been trained by the league this would be really difficult. She just hoped that Jack would be able to slip away before any real combat began. She might be taxed defending herself.

Listening to the two talk as he faded away, Vic was hit by a sudden wave of sadness. He knew what it was to be scarred by violence, but it had been his own life that had nearly been ended, not that of a loved one. When his own parents had passed away, his grief had been acute, but they hadn't been taken. He could scarcely imagine the rage of that.
Vic agreed with the ninja. Tempting as it must be to put a final stop to someone's evil, death just warped more lives. Thoughtful, wishing he could linger, but knowing he couldn't, The Question made his escape.

Bruce saw the man making his escape. His eyes went to Alice, and he moved for her, intending to use his knife to quickly disarm her and then take down the man. He just needed them both unable to escape, and then it could be cleaned up after. He had plenty of ways to non-lethally immobilize them.
He went for Alice, keeping his knife down and bringing his other arm up, ready.

Alice noticed Jack moving further back. He still wasn't in the clear yet but it was her job to make sure he had the proper time to escape.
Alice saw Bruce coming at her and leaped back, blade raised defensively, preparing to knock the knife aside. She jumped back in Jack's general direction though she stopped far before him. She would use her body as a shield if necessary to give him some extra time to flee.

He swung his blade for hers, intending for steel to strike steel. He was going to use his other arm to aim for hers, to try to break her grip on the sword.

The stranger likely had the advantage. His knife was light and only required the use of one hand. The vorpal blade needed two to wield it effectively. On top of that she was trying her hardest not to damage the person. Trying to knock aside something as tiny as a knife without invoking injury would prove really difficult. And she couldn't move much further back. Not if she wanted to give Jack room to flee.
There was a clanging sound as the knife hit her estoc. His other arm hit her own though not exactly as he intended as she had already begun to swing with force in an attempt to force him back. His arm hit lower down her arm. The blow hurt and it made her grip more tenuous but she did not drop her blade. Alice was a small girl but she had more strength than most expected due to her gymnast and estoc training. She pushed with all her weight against the arm connecting with her own. The force was sudden. Sudden enough she hoped to push him back. If so she could jump back and reposition herself.

He pushed forward and swept a leg forward, trying to take her's out from under her. He was going to use his knife hand to move the blade if she did go down. He didn't want that falling freely.

Alice jumped over his leg, laughing. She'd always been rather fond of jump rope and this reminded her of that. As she jumped she swung her estoc to the left, aiming for his chest. She hoped it wouldn't make contact. That could be nasty. She really just wanted him to back up and dodge. It would give Jack more time to flee and her more time to figure out a way to disable without injuring. He was well trained. It would be difficult.

He twisted his left arm and caught the blade against the spikes on his arm. He could hold the blade like that for a bit, unless she pulled away from him. He locked his dagger onto the other side of her sword to prevent such an escape and tried to sweep her legs out again.

Alice laughed again as she jumped over his legs. "You have such wonderful toys!" She simply released her hold on the sword and jumped back. He'd have to let the Vorpal Blade drop sooner or later. She was plenty nimble and quick with the estoc. Without its added weight she was faster still. She was confident in her ability to dodge until she could retrieve her sword. He shouldn't be able to adequately fight, holding onto it.

He twisted, keeping his eyes on her. He tossed the sword backwards and drew his knife up. He was going to wait for her move, but a new plan was forming.

Her eyes followed the blade. She really wanted the protection of her Vorpal Blade. She hated being separated from it; but, now was not the moment to retrieve it. It was back behind him and he had the knife. She shouldn't be rash. She watched and waited, seeing what this man would do.

He threw his knife up into the lights, breaking them, plunging the room into darkness. He didn't need his knife, the darkness would serve.

Alice wasn't certain of whether to be grateful or upset. On the one hand, the man had just abandoned one of his weapons. On the other hand, Alice couldn't see very well. She had fought in the dark before but she was much more accustomed to the light. She gave her eyes a moment to adjust, meanwhile listening for any movement. She'd have to rely on sound and instincts for the time being.
