Bruce felt like shit. Being hit by a car, stabbed, it didn't go well. He had two broken ribs, but no internal bleeding, at least. He'd get through the pain for now, he was used to dealing with it.
He'd get properly looked at later, for now Alfred had done a fine job in patching him up. He was in good enough condition to seek out Jaina Hudson.
He had liked her, slept with her, but had to run out and leave her alone in Wayne Manor so he could deal with a crime in progress. She was gone by the time he returned, and he always felt terrible about it.
He found her residency easily enough. He stood at her door in a suit, filled with pain killers to operate on some semblance of normality, and knocked.

Jaina was just getting out of the shower when she heard the knock. Shit, who could want to see me? She thought to herself, mind racing. She grabbed a robe off of a hook in her bathroom, and went to answer the door, forgetting to hide the mannequin she kept her Playboy Bunny outfit on. "Hello?" She asked as she opened to door, holding her robe shut.

He turned his head a bit to look as she opened it, in case it didn't open all the way.
He ignored her state of dress and gave her a smile, "Jaina Hudson?" he asked, "It's Bruce Wayne."

"Bruce Wayne, the billionaire?" Jaina asked. She was a little confused. She remembered full well what had happened those years ago, but why did he appear so suddenly? A thought crossed her mind. She'd had a blackout the night before. Had something happened?

"Yes," he said, "May I come in?" he asked. He'd rather not talk in the hallway like this. "I'd like to talk to you about some things. About...well, about us."

"U-um, yeah, sure." Jaina moved aside so he could come in. She realized the mannequin with her Bunny outfit was out in the open, but kept the surprise off her face with admirable skill.

He nodded to her as he stepped inside. He glanced at the outfit but didn't let his gaze linger. He looked back to her, "I'm sorry. Best words I can think to lead with. I'm sorry."

"I'm used to men simply leaving. It's never been that big of a deal with me." Jaina closed the door. It really wasn't. She'd slept with quite a few men, and many of them left before she woke up. She had no problem with it.

"I didn't mean to leave," he told her, putting his hands in his pockets as he stood looking at her, "Work came up and I had to go right away. I didn't even have time to leave a note, it was too urgent."
He had been forced to abandon her in the night in order to don his League uniform and stop a bank robbery in progress. He wasn't able to return until after she had left, and he hadn't gone after her.
"I liked you," he told her, "I didn't see you and just want a one-night stand. I'd have liked more."

Memories of Harper's abuse came flashing back to her. She thought of the costume that had appeared in her closet during one of her blackouts, and she rubbed the scars on her wrists, walking back to the bathroom. "I'm not interested in a committed relationship right now. Or ever." Jaina said.

"I didn't come asking for that," he said, watching her as she walked to the bathroom, though he stayed put, "I just came to apologize. I saw a rabbit running across the road when I was out for a drive today, and you came back to mind. It's overdue, but I'm finally here."

"Rabbits run across the road all the time, and there are plenty of Bunnies out there who I'm sure would love to get to know Bruce Wayne that much better." Jaina said, closing the door behind herself and getting dressed.

"And there were plenty that night," he told her, sitting down until she'd come back out. It felt better to sit, "Yet you caught my eye. Only you."

"Gee, I wonder how many other girls have heard that exact line." Jaina remarked sarcastically through the door.

"I'm rich. I'm richer than many people will ever be. Trust me, I don't need lines," he told her.
