- being trapped
Strengths:
- eidetic memory, remembers absolutely everything, impossible to forget
- incredible speed/fast reflexes
- years of intense combat training, particularly skilled with knives
- learns quickly
Weaknesses:
- aside from assassination assignments, been isolated in lab entire life (minus a few weeks) so is incapable of blending in in social situations, has no idea what’s normal or acceptable behavior
- is incredibly easy to manipulate as is used to taking orders, she’d need to be able to improvise and think for herself inside mission objective but she always had someone telling her what the goal and purpose was, on her own she’s lost and drifting
- has no idea how to use basic technology like computers and phones
- has no idea how outside world works, doesn’t know what money is
- is often very timid when she believes people will harm her if she doesn’t have a specific target or mission, she’ll typically just cower if someone raises a fist or starts shouting
- she’ll freak out and become incredibly violent if anyone tries to take away her rubik cube
- due to drugs and conditioning she will spasm, feel incredible pain, and virtually shut down when the word “onomatophobia” is invoked, precaution in case she should escape or otherwise could trouble
- was injected with drugs daily, not sure of effects of being suddenly cut off
Goal(s):
- Realizes that she was different, that she was trapped inside when most were not. Wants to know why.
- Wants to find out if there are others like her since she is #6.
Habits/ Quirks:
- fiddles with rubik cube constantly as source of comfort
- asking questions that would be a matter of common sense to most people
- when asked a question about herself that she doesn’t know or doesn’t understand she’ll just repeat “I’m #6.”
Relationships:
- Jennifer Lynn-scientist who interacted with her in lab setting to properly gauge her abilities, was also responsible for creation of many drugs she was injected with, is viewed as mother figure
Overview: #6 or Vanessa was abducted as an infant to be a part of Project Crescent. The project involved injecting participants with experimental drugs to enhance their senses and breed better fighters. Whether as a result of the drugs, natural gift or both, her memory is incredible. She can read a book once and repeat its contents verbatim. Her speed is also exceptional. Sadly, her strength was only average but she’s more durable than expected. Her endurance is also remarkable. Her eyesight and hearing are a perfect 20/20.
Her social skills are almost entirely non-existent as she only interacted with a couple of scientists and physical instructors in the lab; and, they were rarely touchy feely encounters. They tested her capabilities or punished her for failed assignments. When she was sent out on missions she was instructed not to speak with anyone. As a result she has no comprehension of social customs; and, she doesn’t know how to conduct herself amongst others. She has no idea of why she was trapped when most were not. She doesn’t know where she fits in or where she belongs. Her only goals are to figure out why she was treated differently and to find out if there are any others like her.
She always carries a rubik cube with her as it was one of the few gifts she received in the lab. She fiddles with it constantly. The Victorian style dress she escaped in is also precious as it was another present.
She is very childlike in her wonder and curiosity at what the outside world has to offer. However, she learns quickly and is highly intelligent.
She doesn’t have a moral alignment because she doesn’t quite grasp the concept of morals. They were never taught to her. She doesn’t like experiencing pain and so without orders she won’t inflict such a state on anyone else. However, she will do what is necessary to survive and as she is easy to manipulate it would be easy for others to convince her to harm people.
With a perfect memory she recalls everything, even the things she wishes she could forget. She is plagued with nightmares of her time at the lab. Her training was hostile and failure was not tolerated. She was brutally beaten. She was electrocuted. She was starved for days. She was at times even deprived water. She was forced to withstand freezing temperatures. All to make her stronger or punish her as the situation deserved.
Other Equipment:
- throwing knives
- rubik cube
History
She was experimented on, isolated, and trained with the purpose of becoming the ultimate assassin. She in particular was abducted because she was a healthy child born to poor parents who wouldn't have the resources to cause much trouble over her disappearance. She had minimal contact with people. She had her physical fitness instructors and the scientists who checked on the success with their experimental drugs. With respect to the scientists she mostly interacted with Dr. Lynn as she was one of the most dedicated workers and the most capable of viewing #6 as a lab rat.
#6 was really fond of Dr. Lynn as Dr. Lynn was not responsible for punishments. She did blood work, checked vitals, gave the girl books to read to access her speed and comprehension, and gave her math problems to solve. Although Dr. Lynn didn’t regard #6 with emotion beyond that of a successful or at times disappointing experiment, #6 came to view her as a motherly figure. She worked hard to earn her praise. She never said anything like “You did well.” But she would say “Amazing!” or “Impressive!”. That was the closest #6 got to warmth and affection.
Originally #6 thought she was normal. She assumed everyone was isolated and that everyone had to undergo strict training. But when she was assigned her first mission and went outside the confines of the lab for the first time she realized that wasn’t the case. People were walking around freely. They weren’t confined and not everyone was in excellent shape. They lead completely different lives from her. She tried asking Dr. Lynn about it but Dr. Lynn just said she was special, different. When she told Dr. Lynn she wanted to live like them Dr. Lynn simply said she couldn’t. She was above them, special. No one outside would understand her. Her place was here. Later #6 was punished for her words. She never brought up the matter with Dr. Lynn again. She continued to view Dr. Lynn as a mother figure but she dreamt of living outside with everyone else.
She would occasionally be positively reinforced when she did an outstanding job. Or she would be given things simply so they could be taken away. One year on her birthday she was given a rubik cube by Dr. Lynn. (She was not aware that it was her birthday.) It was simply met as a tool to further encourage #6. She wasn’t emotionally attached to the girl at all. Another year she received a Victorian style dress for Christmas.
Since it was clear Dr. Lynn didn’t want #6 to leave she didn’t discuss any escape plans with her. But she tried to keep her eyes and ears open for any opportunity. The more she was released outside to assassinate, the more she longed for that world. She wanted to be free like everyone else. She grew more bitter of her cruel treatment once she realized it was in fact no the norm. Most people didn’t suffer like she did.
She was never left alone on missions. She was closely monitored to prevent escapes. And she was in radio contact with people for further instructions in case there were abnormalities. But finally she found an opportunity and escaped.
She desperately wants to know if there are others like her since she is #6 not #1. However, she doesn’t know where to begin looking. People like Dr. Lynn would know but they would also make sure she was locked away again. She escaped very recently so she’s just trying to figure out how to survive at the moment. No one gives her food anymore.
