Likes:
- challenging experiments
- conversing with other scientists
- well equipped laboratories
Dislikes:
- ethics restricting her research
- having to keep the majority of her research a secret
- pseudo intellectuals
Strengths:
- excellent scientist, specializes in human genetics. She knows the human genome inside and out. Her experiments are about altering the genetic code for various purposes. Has also been involved with cloning.
- thinks fast on her feet, can adapt to situations quickly
- excellent liar
Weaknesses:
- paranoid that others will bungle experiments so pushes herself to the limit, doing as much by herself as humanly possible, can completely exhaust self
- personally keeps extensive notes on all her research even though she is forbidden from doing so as the research belongs to whoever hires her services, if found out could be in big trouble
- if has a problem can’t solve with respect to an experiment will practically go nuts in devoting everything she has to solving it, will barely eat, sleep, and drink, will spend endless hours trying to fix it
- becomes frantic if misplaces one of her research notebooks, will lose temper and tear everything apart trying to find it
- is somewhat of a compulsive liar
- has no strong connections as she will research for anyone so long as the research is fascinating, payment is not a consideration when accepting jobs
Goal(s):
- conduct interesting experiments
- manipulate the human genome
- clone Batman and improve him
Habits/ Quirks:
- Almost never removes her lab coat even when off duty.
- Will spout off pieces of equations.
- Will break off mid sentence as soon as an idea hits.
- Often taps pen against objects making annoying noises when thinking.
Relationships:
- Jessica Julia Lynn-identical twin sister
- Thomas Lynn-father
- Violette Lynn-mother deceased
- Emily Windslow-best friend
- Jeffrey Thompson-boyfriend
Overview: To Jennifer moral scruples are nothing but hindrances to the scientific process. Research should never be restrained or censored. She doesn’t care who funds her research or how it is used. The knowledge is all she craves. She wants to see just what she can do. She wishes she could discuss her work with others but as most of it is illegal she can only talk about it with her fellow collaborators.
So long as she and everyone she cares about are left alone she doesn’t care who else is harmed by her research. She has experimented on both willing and unwilling patients depending upon who has funded the research. She’s created drugs to enhance human strength, intellect, endurance, longevity etc. She’s have varying success. She’s made drugs to tamper with human memories, erase them/insert new ones. She’s also made drugs to cripple strength, intellect, endurance etc. She’s done her fair share of cloning. Her research is all over the place. She’s had varying success. Long term effects are still unknown for most of her experiments.
People have been both saved and killed as a result of her experiments. She experiences neither pride nor guilt in terms of how humans are affected by her work. All she cares about is the success of her experiments. In that she takes pride. She doesn’t consider failures crushing blows or a waste of time. They’re only pointless if no lesson was learned. Her mistakes are not repeated.
Other Equipment:
- 22LR revolver
- gun loaded with experimental drugs to cripple the body/immune system
- stun gun
History
Jennifer and Jessica were born to Thomas and Christine Lynn. Jessica was born two minutes before Jennifer, a fact which she never lets her younger twin forget. She always made a big deal about being the older twin even though Jennifer was typically more mature. Jennifer and Jessica were practically opposites. Jennifer was serious and introverted while Jessica was vivacious and outgoing. Jennifer was obsessed with the maths and sciences while Jessica gravitated more towards the fine arts, particularly enjoying painting and languages. Despite their differences the two girls were quite close. They never felt super competitive since their interest were so different. Jessica could actually make Jennifer laugh and help her relax.
Jennifer’s mother died when she was eight years old due to congenital heart defect. Jennifer had been closer to the quiet book loving father than the social butterfly mother but she had still loved her. To cope with her grief she tried to learn about her mother’s problem, exactly what caused her death. This caused some tension between Jennifer and Jessica. Jessica thought Jennifer was being too cold and distant. Their mother was dead and Jen was obsessed with figuring out the how and why. The how and why didn’t matter. Their mother was dead. Jessica cried a lot and she thought it was creepy how her twin didn’t cry at all. Jennifer’s teachers were worried about the way she handled it too and suggested counseling which their father rejected. He didn’t think there was anything wrong with Jen’s reaction. It was the first time Jen realized that curiosity could be considered dangerous. She became more introverted and more careful about her questions. Eventually Jessica calmed down about their mother’s death and apologized for telling Jen she didn’t care about mom’s death. Jen forgave her but started practicing fake crying so as not to unnerve her sister.
Jen went to Princeton University to study human genetics. During her time there she volunteered at the university labs. Her work was so impressive she eventually got paid. Her sister had attended Pittsburgh University to study languages and linguistics. Jen stayed at Princeton for graduate school. It was around this time she approached for the first time to conduct illegal research. She didn’t entirely understand what her involvement would require as it was all very hush hush. She was thrilled at the prospect of human experimentation. It meant that the success or failure of a drug could be confirmed so much faster. She was immune to people’s pleading. This was for the greater good of the scientific community. They were no different from lab rats. And they were the key to unlocking the secrets of the humane genome. When she got her PhD she was hired by the League of Shadows. She wasn’t technically part of the group but conducted experiments to aid their work.
As attempts were made on her life due to her research she became proficient with both the stun gun and revolver. She prefers to incapacitate rather than kill outside experiments since the people targeting her could make good guinea pigs for her experiments.
She later moved back to Gotham as she was privately hired by an entrepreneur to construct drugs that would slow the aging process. She met her current friend Emily, nicknamed, Em back at Gotham and her boyfriend Jeffrey. Both Em and Jeffrey are dear to her even though she can’t discuss her research with either. Jeffery is an idealistic attorney. He is extremely different from Jen as he has a strong sense of moral obligation. Jen finds him a breath of fresh air. Sometimes she does like to get away from the mess of work and he’s good for that. He is a motivated dreamer who encourages Jen to follow her ambitions but only because he doesn’t know what her research actually entails. Em is an editor who suggests great books for Jen to read. Jessica lives in Gotham as well and the two still keep in contact. Jennifer visits her sister and father when she has the time.
Jen has recently been hired to clone and improved Batman. She believe it would be fun so she took on the assignment. However, it is not her top priority as first she needs to obtain Batman’s DNA and that could take some effort. She’s concentrating her efforts on other experiments. If Jenn was at a crime scene it wouldn’t be difficult to obtain some of Batman’s blood or hair but she doesn’t want to put herself in direct danger. Her life is more valuable than anything. If she dies she can never conduct experiments again. She will never get that rush of cracking a difficult mystery or of learning something new every again.
