Overview: Jonathan Crane isn't what one would call mentally stable. He's obsessed with fear and even believes he will one day become the god of it. Though he plays Dr. Jonathan Crane as a quiet bookish man who desires to cure his patients and will to what he can to assist the police, the Scarecrow is his true persona. The Scarecrow is overly creepy, overly hammy, and enjoys a good cackling every now and then. Screw him over in the just the smallest way possible and he will get his revenge on you even if it takes him a decade. This guy can really hold a grudge.
Other Equipment:
- Scarecrow suit: consists of a patched together suit, a hangman's noose around his neck, a gask mask, and several fluorescent orange hypodermic needles strapped to the fingers of his right hand which he uses to inject his fear toxin

History
Jonathan Crane grew up unwanted and unloved. His father abandoned his mother after getting her pregnant at sixteen and his mother later abandoned him, hoping to make it big as an actress. He was only three when he came to live with his grandmother. Being a religious fanatic, she forbid anything she deemed sinful. She would hit him whenever he disobeyed her and whenever he did something really terrible in her eyes, she would lock him in the attic. Jonathan hated the attic and the winged beasts that lurked within it. One time, the bats swarmed him after he pelted one with a rock which caused him to fall from the attic stairs and brake his leg. He's been terrified of them ever since.
At thirteen Jonathan finally tired of the old woman's abuse and laced her dinner with rat poison while she wasn't looking. She died soon after and poor Jonathan became a ward of the state. But that was not the end of Jonathan's abuse. Throughout his education, Jonathan has been tormented by his classmates for his bookish and awkward nature. This torment caused him to develop an obsession with fear and revenge.
After being humiliated by school bully Bo Griggs and rejected by cheerleader Sherry Squires, he took revenge during the senior prom by dressing like a scarecrow and brandishing a gun in the school parking lot; in the ensuing chaos, Griggs got into a car accident, paralyzing himself and killing Squires. Jonathan was never connected to the crime, which allowed him to continue to Gotham University to study psychology.
Crane's obsession with fear lead to him becoming a psychiatrist, taking a position at Arkham Asylum and performing fear-inducing experiments on his patients. He also became a professor of psychology at Gotham University, specializing in the study of phobias. He lost his job though after firing a gun inside a packed classroom, accidentally wounding a student. Crane donned his Scarecrow persona once again to get revenge on the professors responsible for his termination.
Scarecrow is still at large and his identity remains a mystery to the both the police and the general public.
During his college years, he took martial arts classes and formed his own style called "Violent Dancing" after no longer wishing to be a scrawny weakling.
