Relationships:
Overview: At heart Alice a dreamer who wants to believe in a better world and a brighter future, a world where good and innocent people aren’t needlessly slaughtered to sate other’s need for wealth and power. However, she realizes that such a world can’t come about on its own. It needs help; and, she will be one of those brave enough to carve the way. She knows that people like her couldn’t possibly have a place in this new world because her hands are stained with blood. The new world will a be place for those innocent and pure of heart. However, this doesn’t bother her. To her Wonderland is real. Now she can only visit it from time to time. The portals are always moving and she never knows when she’ll see it next but one day she is convinced that she will be able to live there permanently and she’ll find some form of her parents. So it’s okay that she won’t belong in this world. She’ll always have Wonderland.
Although Alice doesn’t consider herself innocent she typically acts childish and innocent. She skips, spins, and twirls constantly in public, not worrying about how others would view her. She tells others exactly the way she perceives the world if they bother to ask; and, such a view typically differs from the norm. In a sense her morals are very childish. There is little room for gray. Either something is right or it’s wrong. She experiences very little guilt because she believes she kills for good reason. She is protecting the greater good.
Wonderland is her greatest hope and most feverent wish. Here, her parents are dead. There is no denying that. But people she knows seem to exist in some twisted form or other in Wonderland. In Wonderland she might just find them again. As such if anyone tries to tell her that Wonderland is a mere fantasy she is likely to lash out at them with her blade. She’s killed several people this way. This is where most of her guilt lays; but, she typically rationalizes it away by saying they were bad people, people who would lie to her about the nature of the world.
Other Equipment:
- estoc
History
Alice was born in France but her father was originally from Britain so she grew up speaking both English and French. Her father had moved to France for business opportunity where he met Alice’s mother and married her. Until she was 13 Alice had a very happy childhood. Both her parents loved her dearly and spent as much time as work allowed with her. She had been named Alice because her parents were very fond of Alice In Wonderland. It was the first story that was ever read to her and the first Disney movie she ever watched. She loved the stories as well. Even when she was old enough to read herself she would still have her father tell her the story at times. Her father wouldn’t just tell her the story of the Alice that was. He made up new adventures for Alice. She returned to Wonderland again and again. Alice always had a vivid imagination. It was easy to pretend that she could travel to Wonderland.
Alice loved the grace and elegance of gymnasts. She wanted to move like them. From a young age she convinced her parents to let her take classes. She did well in various competitions. She didn’t care whether she won or lost. She simply wanted to improve. Somersaults and flips gave her a feeling of freedom.
When she was 13 she went to a business party with her parents. She watched them die in agony. They had drunk the wine at their table. Alice was spared only because she was too young to drink it. Later it was confirmed that the wine contained deadly poison. Her parents had done nothing wrong, nothing illegal. They were dead because her father had been a threat to another company.
Her uncle on her father’s side lived in Gotham so she was moved there and entrusted to his care. Originally she was bitter and angry. It wasn’t fair that she had lost everything due to a company squabble. She became introverted and reserved. She refused to go to school and eventually she stopped eating. She was of course taken to counseling; but, she refused to say a word there. She wouldn’t touch any medication either.
Brent remembered his brother’s obsession with Alice in Wonderland. Not knowing what else to do he read Alice the story and told her who was to say Wonderland didn’t exist. He said that Alice shouldn’t be so quick to give up. Her parents wouldn’t want that and if Wonderland did really exist then she might be able to see them again in some form. He asked her if she had ever seen Wonderland. He told her that he thought he had as a child. Desperately wanting to believe that she could be reunited with her parents she told her uncle she had seen it. And suddenly she wondered if she really hadn’t seen it. Maybe she only thought it was her imagination because everyone told her it must be. But maybe it wasn’t. Maybe she was special and she alone could see it.
She started eating again. She’d see Wonderland again. She would. She wanted to see it so badly that she started hallucinating. The hallucinations brought her great joy; but, for the most part she was still trapped in this wretched world. So long as she was stuck here she wanted to do something to avenge her parents and protect other people the way that she hadn’t been protected.
Her uncle knew Alice was hallucinating; but, he feared that Alice would stop eating again if she was institutionalized. He encouraged her to keep Wonderland a secret. He said that since most people couldn’t see it few would understand and she could get in trouble. Alice didn’t think it was fair that she needed to keep it a secret but she promised she would if she would be allowed to find an estoc trainer. That..That was the perfect vorpal blade for her. She just knew it. Originally her uncle refused; but, Alice went on a hunger strike. After having lost his brother, he couldn’t bare to lose Alice too. He reluctantly agreed.
When Alice turned 18 she left her aunt and uncle’s home for good. She loved them dearly but she was sick and tired of their rules. She didn’t want to keep Wonderland a secret; and, she was tired of the lies. They were wrong. They didn’t believe that anyone besides the law should punish criminals. But the law was imperfect and those who were meant to enforce it corrupt. So she always had to lie about where she was and what she did. Lying was bad but necessary; but, she didn’t want to keep it up a moment longer than necessary.
Her parents were fairly well off and as their sole child, she inherited all their funds. She knows the money won’t last forever so she tries to use it sparingly. She lives in the cheapest, tiniest apartment in Gotham city and buys the cheapest grade of food. Her only luxuries are the pretty dresses she can’t entirely give up. When she kills people for the greater good, she keeps whatever money they had on them to help with expenses. She hopes that she will be a permanent resident of Wonderland before real money problems hit.
