Three years ago
Night had fallen over Gotham City as a shadowy figure leaped from one rooftop to the next. The figure did so without a moment of hesitation. She was just thankfully she lived in a city with its buildings so close together and that she's been doing gymnastics for years.
The figure was glad in a black one-piece suit with a Zorro mask covering the tap half of her face and a medium sized yellow scarf covering the bottom half. Her long red hair blew in the wind as she hopped off one building..only to miss the next one.
She held her breath.
"This is it," she thought, "It's all over from here. I'm sorry daddie. I'm sorry mom, i should have never done this..."
She closed her eyes expecting the end, only to land in a nice soft pile...of garbage.
"Oh that's right..it's garbage day tomorrow.."

Steph walked down the street quickly, a book against her chest. She had been at Betty's place longer than she thought, and now she just wanted to get home fast. She looked over her shoulder every few seconds, scared.

The masked girl slowly pulled herself from the pile of garbage bags while straightening her utility belt. Luckily nothing seemed to be missing from it.
She took one whiff of her sleeve and nearly vomited.
She grumbled, "I bet Spiderman never had to deal with a smelly costume..."

Steph stopped looking over her shoulder, not noticing the man behind her.

Barbara stepped out of the alley only to see a young girl probably not even sixteen yet being followed by a suspicious looking man. They were across the street so Barbara had no choice, but to yell out, "Look behind you!"

The man whipped out a knife and pointed it at Stephanie. She turned around and tried to back away.

Barbara had to act quickly. When the man whipped out a knife, Barbara whipped out a rotten egg, broke out in a slight run to gain momentum, and tossed it at his face.

The egg hit the man dead center between the eyesight. He stopped in pain as the egg white leaked into his eyes.
Steph looked at the woman who had thrown it, who was running toward the man. Steph quickly got out of the way, watching intently.

With the man blinded, this was the perfect opportunity to pull out her tonfas and smack one across his thigh before following up with a swift kick.

The man crumpled down from the blows, breaking easier than the egg.

Barbara kicked the knife away from him, placed her heel ontop of his chest, and placed her tonfa against his throat.
"Who are you?" she asked in a deep, gruff voice, "Just a common crook or were you after her specifically?"

"I just wanted her wallet!" the crook said cowering in pain.
Stephanie was astounded by this scene. She was fascinated by the woman.

Barbara pressed her heel in deeper, twisting it.
"You should be ashamed of yourself! Attacking a defenseless girl! And you!" she glanced at Stephanie, "You really shouldn't walking the streets at night by yourself!"

"Thank you" Stephanie said. "I know I shouldn't, I just wasn't thinking..."

Barbara sighed, "It's alright - as long as you don't make a habit of it. Where do you live? I'll walk you there rest of the way."
